Outlines CASE study 1 This case study looks at validation of non-formal and informal learning that takes place in municipal adult education. The validation focuses on vocational training within the field of cooking in restaurants and large-scale households. The education and validation is carried out in a restaurant where the students are offered both practical and theoretical education. This case is concentrated on one single person, a woman who, several years ago, didn´t finish her upper secondary level. She now wants to complete her studies to reach the formal grades in the national courses within the context of municipal adult education. She has been working in the restaurant sector for several years, but she has not been able to get a permanent employment without the formal grades. The case study shows her validation-process, including perspectives from the advisers and assessors/evaluators working with the process. After some interviews with the people involved the case will be presented in the following way: 1. Description of the context, where the validation takes place. 2. Description of the woman and her background and aims as well as her personal ambitions during her educational and working life. 3. Description of the advisers and assessors/evaluators perspective of the validation-process. 4. The validation-process will be presented with some photos and a description of the tools used during the validation. 5. Conclusions and summary.
